GiveFTW Season 1 results board showing 705 prize winners, 3,100+ users and 34,000 tasks completed

Charity streaming has always had an awkward moment: the ask. Streamers don’t love pressuring their viewers, and viewers don’t love being pressured. Caffelli’s idea was to remove it. Sponsors fund the donation up front, and the community earns it by completing tasks during a season, things like watching a partner’s stream or reading about the nonprofit. Points also unlock loot drops and prizes along the way.

Season 1 ran in 2021 with Intel as sponsor and more than twenty streamers on board. Over three thousand players completed thirty-four thousand tasks, and $50,000 went to each of The Trevor Project and Oceana. When players were surveyed afterwards, almost all of them said they’d play again.

I was part of the development team. We built it on Laravel: the season site, player accounts, the task and points engine that verified completions and released drops, prize tracking, and the admin side where each season’s sponsors, tasks and charities were set up.

Phase 01

Define

A season model where sponsors, tasks, prizes and charities can all change from one run to the next, and a points system that rewards attention rather than money.

Phase 02

Design & build

Built on Laravel as a team: the public season site, player accounts, the task and points engine, loot drops and the admin panel.

Phase 03

Ship & run

Season 1 went live with Intel and more than twenty streamers, handled thousands of players, and delivered $100,000 to the two charities.
